Chocolate Brownie of Shadow Lawn
We could import Joy from the Dutch Shadow Lawn kennel thanks to Rob Huybrechts, owner of Kroonkennel. Joy was out of Kroonkennels Joyful and Tallygold Hot Chocolate. A small, dark coloured, beautiful bitch with a lot of drive. Picking up one day in the shooting field and the next day winning the RCAC on the bench, you can say she was an extraordinary dual purpose dog.
Although successful in the showring, her real passion was on the working side. Working tests and picking-up days were the areas she excelled in. Due to lack of experience from my side I was still far away from field trials at that time.
A nice story I remember is the first time she had to retrieve cold game. Joy rushed to the area of the fall but then she would not pick up the duck. Mr. Ben Koolen, a well known Dutch judge, told me 'don't worry, a dog with such a pretty name, that will work out well'. It was as of she had understood his comment, Joy picked up the duck and proudly rushed back to me. She never looked back afterwards.
Joy was 15,5 years old when her heart wouldn't continue anymore. When I think of her I only have warm feelings. She had a few litters and produced some beautiful offspring. With her roots firmly in the Kroonkennel line, Joy was the glue in the early phase of the Thornmill breeding line.
